I think that our media has focused way too much attention on negative things that are happening with celebrities rather than with what’s really important. I think Maria’s conversation in class today about Global warming showed a perfect example of how a major issue isn’t addressed the way it should be. I realize that our culture is very into celebrities and their trends so I decided to address the sad issue of what’s going on with Britney Spears.
I found this article that addresses some of the terrible things that Spears is experiencing this week. Although she is constantly in the public eye, you kind of have to feel bad for her. Yes, she shaved her head and is checking in and out of rehab but doesn’t that make people feel bad for her because obviously there is something wrong with her. I found this article interesting because besides all of the rehab issues the article discusses the idea that her ex-husband Kevin Federline (who many people just see as a joke) is trying to gain custody of their two children. Really though, with his background would he be the most stable father? I don’t know much about him but really the people you have to feel sorry for are the children in this situation. Although it’s really not the most important issue in the entire world, I think that this will be an interesting case to follow.
One issue that has definitely brought up some controversy is Tim Hardaway’s view on homosexuals. This past week the all star basketball player made a very distinct remark about gay people pretty much sumarizing into the words, “I hate them.” I found a blog searching through Technorati about Hardaway’s comments and the feelings other people have about what he has said.
The blogger addresses the idea about showering with gay men and that “they” should have a separate locker room. It’s funny to think how paranoid some people are. I mean although it might be uncomfortable, I don’t think that someone’s personal feeling should effect where they can shower. It seems to me tht it would be more important to separate like a pedofile from children rather then gay men from straight men, because honestly they aren’t interested in your straight self anyways!!
Although it is our country’s belief that we have the freedom of speech someone as professional as Tim Hardaway should know better then to come out and say the hurtful things that he did. I realize it’s a touchy subject, but it’s nothing that should have been spoken about by a professional in the way that Hardaway addressed it.
In trying to find something to blog about this week, it was only appropriate to search for “snow storms in ny” and see all of the hits that popped up. I found one blog through Technorati about the snow storm on Valentine’s Day. This blog addressed one person’s experience in trying to get on airline flights and get around, but due to the bad snow storms, it was nearly impossible. I saw something on the news about one particular flight that was full of passengers and on the runway for NINE hours. How ridiculous is that?? I think this blogger brings up a good point about what many travelers felt on Valentine’s Day.
Although this blogger didn’t necessarily experience that nine hour delay, he had many other delays and detours along the way. Currently there are talks about passing a law stating how long passengers will be able to be parked on an airplane without moving. I definitely think this law should come into effect because it definitely is not fair to make anyone wait like that.
There is a very inspirational post I found about a lady who is battling Cancer. The blog site gives almost a daily process of the events she has overcome and the struggles she still faces. I think that its a very good idea that she has this site because it allows her to know that there are many other people who are going through the same thing and there are also many people who support her.
Cancer has become something that is very known throughout our culture and a blog like this only increases the awareness. I think that this woman is very courageous because she is allowing everyone to see her struggle, however, out of her struggle she in increasing education about the disease. This blog is a great support group and should make everyone realize and be greatful for what we have.
I can relate to this blog because someone very close to me was recently diagnosed with cancer. Marissa emphasizes the importance of family and the support they bring. I think that throughout my family support is the best medication one can have. This blog allows people to help bring about awareness and also support others who need it.
