One issue that has definitely brought up some controversy is Tim Hardaway’s view on homosexuals. This past week the all star basketball player made a very distinct remark about gay people pretty much sumarizing into the words, “I hate them.” I found a blog searching through Technorati about Hardaway’s comments and the feelings other people have about what he has said.
The blogger addresses the idea about showering with gay men and that “they” should have a separate locker room. It’s funny to think how paranoid some people are. I mean although it might be uncomfortable, I don’t think that someone’s personal feeling should effect where they can shower. It seems to me tht it would be more important to separate like a pedofile from children rather then gay men from straight men, because honestly they aren’t interested in your straight self anyways!!
Although it is our country’s belief that we have the freedom of speech someone as professional as Tim Hardaway should know better then to come out and say the hurtful things that he did. I realize it’s a touchy subject, but it’s nothing that should have been spoken about by a professional in the way that Hardaway addressed it.
Yes, there seems to be a lot of blogging happening around this issue. here is another one I found. Separate locker rooms, separate showers, all seems a bit reminiscent of separate water fountains and bathrooms, or the types of sorting out that happened in a holocaust half a century ago.

I agree with you. There is a certain degree of a freedom of speech issue however this man has a job to fill. As an athlete, it is his responsibility to not only play a good basketball game but to be a well rounded person who is representing the NBA. Being a public figure, he should have never uttered the comments that he did. A man can have his opinion but when it is from a figure who is so widely publisized it is more important for him to keep his opinions to himself.
Its one thing if he was making positive comments, however they were predjustice and anti-gay. This also surprises me coming from an African American man. I think the NBA pays him enough that he can keep his mouth shut and his opinions to himself. He ended up getting himself in more trouble than it was worth because he couldn’t just bite his toungue, grin and bear it.
