Inconvience

So thinking about frustrating things, I decided to write a blog about one of the most annoying things in the world — hiccups.  I saw on the Today show several days ago a girl who was suffering from unconditional constant hiccups.  I found a story about her that seemed really interesting.

A teenage girl from Florida had an annoying case of hiccups, that lasted way longer than normal, 5 whole weeks.  This article addresses how the girl, Jennifer Mee, attempted everything to try to get rid of them and nothing seemed to work.  Mee was said to have hiccuped up to 50 times a minute and only stopped hiccuping while she slept.  After trying every cure unsuccessfully, her hiccups just randomly stopped.  The story expresses the cause of hiccups and things that can trigger them.

I can’t really imagine what it would be like to be in a sitution like this.  I think that in our culture today we hate to be inconvienced and the thought of having something like this bothering a person seems ridiculous.  I definitely do sympathize with this girl, but as we have talked about in class is this really news?? do we not have more important things happening in the world to write stories about? Yes, it’s unusual and interesting but it’s sad to think this is what our “news” stories are coming to.

  1. That is probably one of the coolest things I’ve read in while. I hate having hiccups for even a minute or so.. but for five weeks? I would go absolutely insane. Poor Jennifer Mee. It can’t be healthy for your body to hiccup that much.
You’re right though. Its so shocking that stories like this actually make it on the web as news. What if a girl farted every other second for 2 months.. would that make the local news? Its ridiculous what this world is comign to. And the news stories that are listed as important news stories. This story definenlty goes along with what we discussed in class. Stupid news stories!

  2. Hiccups are really frustrating, and I love how you always seem to get a case of them at the most inconvenient times too. For instance, you’ll be sitting in class and it will be completely silent and you’ll start hicupping. It’s extremely embarassing and it’s such a funny feeling too. What I always do is drink out of the opposite side of the cup and my hiccups instantly go away.:)

  3. You right. It’s not really good news, but I would take it any day over the biased slandering BS that we so often get from the major news stations. My biggest problem with the situation is. They are providing only commentary. If they aired a speech and then commented on it, then, as far as I’m concerned, they can say whatever they want about it. However as it now, all they are doing is commentary at best. Displaying presidential candidates in their bathing suits isn’t even relevant commentary and has no place on “reputable” news sources.
