Many people would think that March 15 is just another regular day, however, to basketball fans around the world they have long been awaiting this day — The beginning of the NCAA College Men’s Basketball Tournment. I found through Salon a blogger who is very intense about this subject, so much so that he updates it frequently throughout the day. This article gives an update as to who won and what went on in the games about twice an hour. CBS has full coverage of all of the games, showing the games instead of their regular program. One thing that this Tournament has caused all over is extreme betting among brackets. I liked this blog site because it’s a lighthearted discussion about a fun sports event. It’s nice every once in awhile to read something out of enjoyment rather then always seeing serious news stories.
I must admit I’m a huge basketball fan and find myself filling out brackets (although I unfortunately never win) but its kind of funny to think about what a big deal this has become. I think this year is definitely important because a local school is involved, UAlbany. Since this blogger’s article is so frequently updated it will be interesting to see what he has to say about our home town team.
Now I know I’m off on a tangent and this doesn’t really relate much to this topic but today a man apparently turned himself in saying he was responsible for 9/11 and many other terrorist related attacks… I saw about a 30 second news story on this (which one would think would be a major event) and I’ve seen about two hours of basketball today — it’s strange to think what our importances are in this country.
I’m also a HUGE basketball fan and filled out a bracket. My friends fill out brackets too and we don’t generally bet each other, but it’s fun to see how accurate we’ve been. I haven’t seen too many of the games yet, but I’m hoping to catch quite a few more tonight. I was excited about UAlbany being in the tournament and decided I’d try to show a little faith in them so I put them down as making it to the round of Sweet 16. Guess I was wrong on that one… oh well. What I hate the most is when I think a team will win that I hate. This year I have Florida as winning the championship, but I really don’t like Joaquim Noah because I think he’s cocky without many other qualities to redeem him. Hopefully March Madness is more entertaining than the regular season was.

College basketball has become a huge deal in March, mainly because of the playoffs or whatever they are calling it, but I find that more people watch it because they are part of a pool and want to earn an extra buck. I was thinking about jumping into one of those bracket pools and I even got a little more excited that UAlbany was a part of March madness. I am not a big basketball fan and did not take part in any pools this season, but I do think that bracket pools get the spirit of March madness going. There are also many fans of the sport who watch for the fun of the game, but i’m more of a football guy.

March 15th is a big day to me and my friends/family. Every year we join a pool and then watch the games like excited children on christmas, some are disappointed but others, and this year myself, are screaming and yelling because all of our predictions have been right so far. March Madness got it’s name because people GO CRAZY for these basketball games and parties.
I can’t believe baksetball is getting more coverage than a man saying he is responisble. I watched cbs 6 games all day and never saw that. I know its March Madness but they should still have done a newsbreak for it,

What I want to know is why women’s teams are relatively ignored in this (and every other) March Madness season. The big news was Duke is out! But technically their women were still very much in (until now). It just frustrates me that when anyone says “the Final Four” they are automatically referring to men’s teams.
